Our Learning Council is made up of representatives from each class in Years 3 to 6 who are nominated by their classmates. The council meets regularly to discuss how teaching and learning can be improved at Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy, collect ideas and opinions from their classmates and report back ideas and suggestions from the meetings.
In 2015/16 a new Marking Policy was introduced throughout the school and the Learning Council were asked to share this with their classes and collect the children’s opinions. Every member of the council reported back ideas and a few amendments were made to the policy.
One of the school’s aims is to ensure every child reads regularly at home and Mrs Harris, a school governor, attended our Learning Council meetings to help promote reading in school. The Learning Council raised £3,000, which they then spent on new books for class book corners.
There was also a video conference where the Learning Council interviewed children’s author, Gill Lewis.
The Learning Council regularly meet visiting schools and headteachers to discuss learning at the school.
